  /  RETURN TO SCHOOL 2020-2021

Dear parents,

I hope you are all keeping safe and well .Next Monday, September 7, will mark the long awaited return to school for your son. As we know this is a very challenging time for all the school community and there is an heir of uncertainty about what the future will bring. Nonetheless, here at CBS we want to create an environment that is as safe as can be for your son to return too while also being conducive to teaching and learning. This is a process that entails staging the physical space, getting the students to cooperate, creating a communal environment, and finally maintaining a positive classroom climate and culture. For this we ask the parents of our students for their continued support to help provide such an environment for all students and staff.1. The face masks issued to your son at induction are part of the school uniform and only these masks are permitted to be worn in school. We issued 5 per student to ensure that hygiene maintenance of these masks would not be an issue2. If any student has been or is planning on going abroad then the school needs to be informed and rules around 2 weeks of quarantine on return in line with HSE guidelines must be obeyed.3. After staff consultation it has been agreed that subject textbooks do not need to be brought to school everyday and that if students bring pens and copy books (A4 Refil pads for Senior Cycle students) as well as subject workbooks (speak to individual teacher about these) this will suffice as we are conscious of the weight of bags over the temporary unavailability of lockers. Textbooks may be needed on occasion but this will be addressed by the subject specific teacher.4. Please ensure that your son has pens/copies/calculator etc. as required as the sharing of resources amongst students would pose a greater health risk and is not something we will be facilitating.5. When your son is on break/lunch please speak with them about the need to maintain social distance from each other even when outside if they choose to remove the mask at this time. All these processes that have been put in place for the safe return to school will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. Your continued support on these matters is appreciated and while we do not know what will happen as we open to full capacity you can be sure myself and the team at CBS will be doing our utmost to create a safe learning environment for all. Kind regards, Tony McSweeneyDeputy Principal
